Work on the new skatepark is nearing completion and the Town of Franklin hopes to have a ribbon cutting for the park in September.
Franklin Town Manager Amie Owens and Streets Supervisor Chris Waldroop gave an update on the park during the Aug. 7 Town Council meeting. Waldroop said they should finish final grading this week, depending on the weather.
Owens said she is working with LBJ Job Corps and Sk828 to build brick benches that will also serve as a protective barrier along the edge of the park. A graffiti wall will be installed for skaters and others to express themselves (with some rules) and create a noise barrier for the condos below the park.
Owens said the park will be a “skatepark for all” and will allow skateboards, bicycles without pegs, scooters and skates/roller blades.
The town asks that skaters not use the park until work is completed and the park is officially open. Signs with park rules will be posted prior to opening.
