An Otto woman was killed in a three-car wreck June 29 on Hwy. 441 (Georgia Road).
Trooper J.D. Gass said the N.C. Highway Patrol received a call at 4:20 p.m. about the wreck just north of the old Otto School. A GMC Denali truck driven by Jesus Perez, 35, of Franklin was traveling north when the truck crossed the centerline. The truck spun with the right side door striking the front of a Toyota Camry traveling south, which then pushed the Camry into a vehicle in the far lane. “There was heavy impact to the front of the vehicle (Camry),” Gass said.
Gass said the driver of the Camry, Alyson Payne, 32, of Otto, died at the scene.
Helen Downing, 48, of Walhalla, South Carolina, was the driver of the third vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler. She received minor injuries and was not transported from the scene.
Perez was transported to Angel Medical Center. Gass said there was heavy rain at the time of the wreck and Perez said he hydroplaned.
“It is very sad,” Gass said. “There was no malicious intent that I believe.” The trooper said charges will be forthcoming.
