First United Methodist Church in Franklin held a program on Sunday, Jan. 19 honoring the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
Participants joined together in song, shared their thoughts on King’s legacy and shared information about local service projects and ways to help others in the community. Guests also watched a recording of King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
In addition to the church, the program was presented by Forward Franklin, which “promotes social justice and progressive values through education, advocacy and political action.”
Macon County Schools were closed on Monday in observance of the holiday and town and county government offices were closed. There was no mail service as it is a federal holiday.
