The interim county manager is one of six applicants who have put their name in the hat for the county manager position.
Interim County Manager Warren Cabe took the position at the end of October after 10-year county manager Derek Roland resigned in September.
Macon County Human Resources Director Tammy Keezer said three of the six applications meet all the job requirements. Cabe confirmed he had applied for the position. The county is still accepting applications for the position.
Board of Commissioners Chair Josh Young said the search is something they need to keep in their sights, and they need an interview team. The plan is to come up with names for that interview team by the Feb. 11 meeting.
The Macon County Board of Commissioners are developing an annual performance review for the two positions they directly control: the county manager and county attorney.
Young said it’s been something talked about for a couple of years. Commissioner John Shearl said the UNC School of Government recommends municipal governments have a board performance review and it puts concerns in writing.
“In professional America, it’s a very common practice to have a review,” Young said. He wants to conduct the reviews each year at the end of December or start of January.
At the end of the Jan. 14 meeting, the commissioners recessed until Thursday, Jan. 23 at noon to discuss the performance review criteria in a closed session.
Board Attorney Eric Ridenour noted his contract is up for renewal in April. Cabe’s interim county manager contract runs through June 30.
On Jan. 23, the commissioners immediately went into closed session at noon to discuss personnel, returned at 1:52 p.m. and adjourned without any other open session action.
