The 11th annual 80s Flashback Weekend was held Aug. 1 and 2 in downtown Franklin. The two-day event raises money for Shriners Children’s Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina.
Friday night’s show included Carbon Harry as the opening act followed by Bad Medicine, a Bon Jovi tribute band.
The annual 5K on Saturday morning saw a record number of 161 runners. By the afternoon, the weather took a turn bringing cooler temperatures and rain that evening.
80s themed floats paraded down Main Street Saturday afternoon. The parade float winners were Low Tide, first place; Ripley and her Alien Friends, second place; and the Red Hot Rubies, third place.
“Saturday evening may have been raining but the crowd didn’t let that dampen their spirits,” said 80’s Flashback board president Tracy Griffith. The crowd partied through the rain at the Totally Awesome 80’s Party sponsored by Drake Software. Corey Stuart was the opening act Saturday evening.
“It takes a lot of work to put this annual event together, but it is worth every second,” Griffith said.
Last year the event raised $34,000 for Shriners Children’s Hospital of Greenville. Griffith said they are still collecting donations and reconciling expenses, but they hope to have raised even more this year.
