The Franklin Amateur Swim Team’s regular season is halfway done.
On June 25, the Fins returned to the Macon County Rec Park to host Jackson County in their third Mountain Swim League meet. With a blowout win FAST entered the second half of their campaign, extending their 17-plus-year unbeaten streak.
June Lynch led the way for FAST’s 6 & under girls, winning the 25-yard freestyle in 33.77 seconds. Zane Strum claimed the same event on the boys’ side with a time of 50.09.
Abigail Samuelson impressed for the 8 & under girls, winning the 25 breaststroke (28.53), 50 free (57.14) and 100 medley (1:44.18). Hailey Janoe claimed the 25 backstroke (24.53).
Maverick Brabson also won multiple events for the 8 & under boys, claiming the 25 butterfly (29.59) and 50 free (44.25). Everett Lewis took home the 25 free (30.22).
Four Fins won one event apiece in the 9-10 age group, including Nyla Rivera in the girls 50 free (41.17) and Emmi Malan in the girls 50 back (50.91). On the boys side Sebastian Hernandez claimed the 50 free (44.90), while Xzavier Rios took home the 50 back (52.97).
Larken Lynch impressed for the 11-12 girls, winning the 50 free (32.76) and 50 fly (40.25). Olivia Banks took home the 50 back (42.47), while Hanna Samuelson claimed the 50 breast (49.81).
On the boys side Nathan Jessup also won two events, claiming the 50 free (30.17) and 50 back (36.01). Emerson Maddrey took home the 100 medley (1:42.13), while Knox Strum won the 50 breast (47.01).
Michael Canzone impressed for the 13-14 boys, winning the 100 back (1:26.19), 100 breast (1:33.42) and 100 fly (1:23.79). Ethan Malan took home the 100 free (1:06.67). On the girls side Madelyn Kennedy claimed the 100 breast (1:42.25), while Abeline Maddrey won the 100 fly (1:35.16).
Five Fins won events for the 15-18 girls, including Lana Walker in the 50 free (27.89), Eleanor Kessler in the 100 back (1:17.83), Dalila Canzone in the 100 breast (1:28.41), Alyse Remery in the 100 free (1:09.26) and Lydia Kennedy in the 200 medley (3:16.44). On the boys side Thatcher Daniels claimed the 50 free (25.73), while Gavin Alverson took home the 200 medley (2:30.04).
In addition to individual events, FAST also won nine of the meet’s 19 relays, including two apiece from both 8 & under groups and the 9-10 boys. Franklin’s girls were the meet’s top-performing team, scoring 384 points to Jackson County’s 246. FAST’s boys earned 321 to the Dolphin boys’ 173, giving Franklin the overall win 705-419.
The Fins will return to the Macon County Rec Park July 2, to host Waynesville in their penultimate regular-season meet.
