Noon Orchard Restaurant event benefits Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry
CASHIERS -- The crisp air of early fall, the tantalizing scents of nine fabulous soups and the camaraderie of friends and family. It must must be the Empty Bowls Project!
Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry is hosting its ninth Empty Bowls Project noon-2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Orchard Restaurant’s Event Barn. This is the Food Pantry’s second fundraiser of the year with tickets sold at the door for $25. The international Empty Bowls Project symbolizes the “empty bowls” food insecurity that faces one in four people in America. As participants savor their simple meal of soup and bread, they are reminded that for many people worldwide, this is the only meal they have each day.
In addition to their delicious meal, participants choose their take-home bowls from the 450 that on display. Also for participants, there will be tables filled with raffle items as well as a silent auction. Items include artwork, golf lessons, a spa treatment, jewelry, tools, two grills, an expresso machine and much more.
Featured soups are from notable local chefs and include; tomato bisque from Mica’s, split pea from the Zookeeper, Tuscan chicken from the Cornucopia, mushroom barley from Winslow’s Hideaway, butternut squash from the Chattooga Club and more savory soups from the Randevous Restaurant, The Library Grill, Cedar Creek Racquet Club, and venison chili from General and Mrs. Peacock.
