William Donald “Don” Kovacs
William Donald “Don” Kovacs, 80, Franklin, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, March 16, 2016.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Bill and Shirley Stone Kovacs. He was a lifelong member of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Association. Don was the state champion butterfly swimmer at South Broward High School in Hollywood, Florida. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Korean War, where he was a photo journalist. He was founder and first president of Florida Alarm Association; developer of Tavernier Towne Shopping Center of the Florida Keys; vice mayor of Hollywood, Florida; owned Kovacs Sign Company and Franklin Riding Stables; and was a building and electrical contractor. He was a pilot, raced boats, and was a scuba diver and an actor.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara; son, Robert Kovacs (Nicole); daughters, Deborah Young (Parrish), Kimberly Brabson, and Pamela Goden; sister, Rhoda Stern of Miam; half-brother, Simon Kovacs; half-sister, Rose Hochman; sister-in law, Jean Lamer (Kenneth); 12 grandchildren, Joshua, Kayla, Jacob, Parrish and Jeremiah Young, Samantha Green and the late David Green, Sarah Biadasz Solesbee, Nicholas Biadasz and Robert, Sarah and Brandon Kovacs; and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
