John Eugene Sherrer
Otto - John Eugene Sherrer, 64, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Sherrer was a son of the late Ed and Frances Reid Sherrer.
He was an Army veteran who married his best friend and the love of his life, Fran. Their inspiring marriage lasted nearly 44 years, and together, they owned and operated a company that provided computers and adaptive technology training for disabled veterans. John was passionate about helping other visually impaired people live independently and led a support group for blind veterans.
Mr. Sherrer will be remembered by his community as a devout man of faith. His passion for Christ influenced his every decision, and he mentored many others in their own spiritual journey. His quick laughter and ready intellect will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Geertsema Sherrer; daughters, Tiffany Sherrer, Holly Sprinkle (Matt) and Angela Sherrer; a son, John Sherrer; grandsons, William, Michael and Daniel Sprinkle; and sisters, Beverly Sherrer, Vicki O’Brien and Jeannie Sherrer; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, with Pastor White of The Gathering Church in Moravian Falls officiating.
