Dorothy Mae Houston Cox
FRANKLIN - Dorothy Mae Houston Cox, 94, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019.
Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late James Norman Houston and Ella Arvey Houston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William A. Cox; grandson, Thomas Elder Bivens; son-in-law, Ken “Bo” Bivens; sister, Marie Darragh and brother, James Taylor Houston.
During the war, she worked at Boeing and was a member of the American Rosie the Riveter Association. She also worked at the FBI in Washington, DC, and worked with her husband in his accounting business. Dorothy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by four daughters, Marie Cox Persinger (Howard H. “Butch” Persinger Jr.) of Braselton, Georgia, Adeline “Betty” Cox Bivens of Greensboro, Loraine “Lori” Cox Finley (Art) of Braselton, and Dorothy Lee Cox Thompson (Wayne) of Dacula, Georgia; brother, James N. Houston Jr. of Franklin; sister-in-law, Delia Houston of Franklin; five grandchildren, Wendy Bivens Fowler (Alan), Howard H. “Holt” Persinger, III (Jennie), Sean M. Persinger (Jacey), Wayne E. “Rett” Thompson Jr. (Katina) and John Gavin Thompson; five great grandchildren, Adeline Fowler, Allison Fowler, Avery F. Persinger, Owen F. Persinger and Emerson J. Persinger; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at Macon Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2019. Eric Burch and Ken Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be appreciated.
