FRANKLIN - Bob Litten, 92, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
Born in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of the late Herbert Dale Litten and Esther Ikerd Fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Powell Litten and daughter, Sandra Dale Litten.
Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on active duty during World War II and the Korean War and for an additional 38 years in the Naval Reserve. By his own account, when he retired from the Naval Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer Four, he was the senior CWO in the Navy.
He was a self-employed master electrician and electrical code instructor. He served his community as a member of Rotary Club of Franklin, Boy Scouts of America, West Macon Volunteer Fire Department, the Freemasons, VFW Post 7339, and American Legion Post 108. At the time of his death, he was the oldest volunteer fireman in North Carolina. Bob was particularly proud of his work on the Veterans Memorial Park of Macon County. He enjoyed playing music throughout his life, and a mandolin often accompanied him on his various adventures.
He is survived by his son, Joe Litten (Janice) of Orinda, California; and grandchildren, Jefferson Litten of Santa Barbara, California, and Jamison Litten of San Francisco.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25th at American Legion Post 108.
