FRANKLIN - George Robert Phillips, 90, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at his residence.

George was born in Jackson County to the late Clarence Edmond and Mattie Lou Cope Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patsy Veora Self Phillips; brothers, Roy Lee Phillips, James Larry Phillips and Clarence Edmond Phillips Jr.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Phillips Pearce (David) of Mount Airy and Sandra Elizabeth Phillips of Greensboro; sister, Thelma Louise Maynard of Indian Trail; grandchildren, Megan Horsley and Courtney Nixon (Jake); great-grandchildren, Cameron Wallace and Callidora Nixon; and several special cousins. His daughters are very grateful to cousin, Diana Cabe (Warren), for the care they provided their dad during his declining health.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18 at Iotla Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Rev. D’Andre Ash will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post #7399 and American Legion Post #108.
